I have just come across a fantastic campaign on Kickstarter for a low budget 'follow focus' type product which attaches to lenses with circumferences from 176mm to 308mm, or lenses like the 50mm f/1.8 to the larger zoom lenses. The great thing about this product is that it attaches to these lenses without the need of rails, with the simple attachment mechanism it simply slides onto any size lens, making it a very flexible, low priced and innovative product. From the time of writing this blog, you only have to invest $45 to their Kickstarter campaign to receive the focus/lens shifter and the marker board with dry erase pen. Using this product will definitely improve focusing skills for photography and cinematography, as critical focus points can be pre-focused and marked with the marker pen to ensure the focus puller/ camera operator reaches those critical focus points during filming or taking photos. If this is still out of reach for your budget, why not check my post out about the 99p follow focus?

Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great write up. Can we post a link to your blog on our Kickstarter page?
Thanks,
Daniel
Hi Daniel
DeleteI'm glad you liked the post, yes please do post the blog on the Kickstarter page.
I really do think it's a great product, the marker board is something that really would come in handy. I am going to be pledging to vote for the name of 'focus shifter', I think that has a better sound to it than 'lens shifter'.
Good luck with the whole campaign, I hope you reach your goal
Brad
Is there any way I can pledge money using PayPal?
DeleteThanks for the support! I think that with Kickstarter you have to use Amazon payment system. Sorry there's no paypal option.
DeleteAre there any other UK cinematography or photography sites that you can recommend that we should reach out to? Although we've received a large amount of international backers, I'm not familiar with what the popular blogs are abroad. It would be nice to contact some blogs/sites in the UK and Europe. I do love international films.
Thanks,
Daniel
Thanks,
Daniel
I tend to follow blogs away from Europe, I know a UK blog for filmmaking, they would definitely be interested - http://www.budgetfilmmaker.co.uk/ an
DeleteAlso have you checked websites such as 'CheesyCam', 'DSLR Film Noob', 'The Frugal Filmmaker', 'Learning DSLR Video' and 'NitsanTV' - all worth a shot because they have fairly large followings
Theres also a Vlogger from the UK that would most likely be interested in making a video talking about the campaign - http://www.youtube.com/user/DSLRLab
DeleteThanks for the tips. You're on the the kickstarter page, both at the top with a link to your film, and at the bottom with a link to your blog.
DeleteThanks,
Daniel
Thank you very much, I appreciate you sharing my film
